Bad Girl is a song by Canadian singer Avril Lavigne for her fifth studio album, Avril Lavigne. It was written by Lavigne, Chad Kroeger and David Hodges, while the song was produced by Kroeger and Hodges and features guest vocals by American singer Marilyn Manson. Musically, "Bad Girl" is a punk rock song that is heavily influenced by industrial and nu metal. The song charted at 58 on the South Korean's Gaon Chart and at number 88 on Billboard's Canadian Hot 100.
Meaning[]
Lyrically, the song talks about sex, where Manson is the daddy to Avril's baby girl. Upon its parent release with the album, "Bad Girl" received favorable reviews, with most critics complimenting the odd duet, calling it "catchy" and "unapologetic smuttry".
Background[]
When she was 18 years old, Avril Lavigne met American singer Marilyn Manson at one of his concerts, and eventually they became friends. On July 7, 2012, it was reported that Lavigne was dating Manson, with the rocker denying the rumour, claiming, "Yesterday it said that I was dating Avril Lavigne. What the f**k is that - she's Canadian, I wouldn't do that." He continued, "I know her. I accidentally shaved her head," he joked. "But yeah, you never know where these stories come from." Lavigne commented that, "I had wanted to shave the side of my head for quite some time, [...] and so it was kind of like shaving it. And then one night, it was on my adventure to France. During my adventure when I was living there, we were hanging out backstage and we were with his band having a few drinks and I was like, 'Let's shave my head. I'm ready; let's do this!'. He's like that, though. He has fun. He wears his make-up; his wardrobe is very visual. I like his style."
Later, the singer revealed that she did a song with Manson, confirming to Billboard about the collaboration, saying, "I wrote this song called 'Bad Girl', and it's like darker and heavier, it's one of the rock tunes on the record." Lavigne also revealed that recruiting Manson for the track, "It was last minute. I was sitting there at the board thinking Manson would be perfect on this track, so I texted him, and he's like, 'I'll come over and I'll hear it.' So he came at 4 o'clock in the morning. ... Yes, it was one of those nights." "Bad Girl" was written by Avril Lavigne, Chad Kroeger and David Hodges, with production being handled by Kroeger and Hodges. The song features guest vocals by American alternative singer Marilyn Manson. Musically, "Bad Girl" is a punk rock, industrial and nu metal song. Lyrically, the song talks about sex, with Manson croaking about his pervy "daddy" fantasies while Avril invites him to "do whatever" and more. "I've been a bad girl, don't you know?/Come get it now or never/I'll let you do whatever," Lavigne sings.
Critical reception[]
"Bad Girl" was met with extremely positive reviews from critics. AllMusic named the song as one of the album's highlights.[1] Billboard also gave a positive review of the song and called it "glorious chaos".[2] Brent Faulkner of StarPulse praised the track, as well, writing, "“Give You What You Like” proceeds soundly, showcasing Lavigne’s vocal control on the verses. Like many of its colleagues, “Give You What You Like” shines in part because of a well-penned, catchy chorus. “Bad Girl” is a better-rounded standout, featuring Marilyn Manson. Manson’s role within the cut is conservative (oxymoron anyone?), but also a gargantuan aspect of the song’s overall success. Avril is definitely on autopilot here in top-notch “bad girl” form: “You know you know I’m crazy / I just wanna be your baby / you can f*ck me and then play me / you love and you can hate me…” Dark and over-the-top. “Bad Girl” ranks among the best."[3] Idolator gave a mixed review of the song, calling it "catchy but shrill".[4]
Lyrics[]
[Marilyn Manson]
Just lay your head in daddy's lap, you're a bad girl (bad girl)
One, two, three, four
[Avril Lavigne]
Hey, hey I let you walk all over me (me)
You know that I'm a little tease (tease)
But I want it pretty please (please)
You know (you know you know) I'm crazy
I just wanna be your baby
You can fuck me, you can play me
You can love me, you can hate me
Miss me, miss me
Now you want to kiss me
Choke me because I said so
Stroke me and feed my ego
I've been a bad girl, don't you know
[Marilyn Manson]
(Don't tell me what to do)
[Avril Lavigne]
Come get it, now or never
I'll let you do whatever
I'll be your bad girl, here we go
[Marilyn Manson]
(One, two, three, four)
[Avril Lavigne]
Miss me, miss me
Now you want to kiss me
[Marilyn Manson]
(Mmmm you're a bad girl)
[Avril Lavigne]

So let me take you all the way (way)
You know you'll never be the same (same)
[Marilyn Manson]
(You fuckin' bad girl)
[Avril Lavigne]
One night, you won't forget the rest of your life
So come on over to the wild side
Buckle up and baby hold on tight
Miss me, miss me
Now you want to kiss me
We both know that you love me 'cause I'm so bad
Choke me because I said so
Stroke me and feed my ego
I've been a bad girl, don't you know
[Marilyn Manson]
(Don't tell me what to do)
[Avril Lavigne]
Come get it, now or never
